As of October 31, 2014 the San Pedro Art Association
has moved to an undisclosed location after nearly 2 decades at the Ports O' Call Village.  They will be missed and
information will be posted here as to new
developments as they occur.

The San Pedro Art Association...

The San Pedro Art Association was formed in 1936 by a small group of local artists that brought together creative people with similar interests within the Harbor area community. It has over the years provided a focal point for those with such interests to work together, to learn, and to exhibit their work.

I first joined the San Pedro Art Association in 1992 and during that stay remained active until 1998. At that time, I and six other artists displayed our work in front of the Coco's and Carrow's Restaurants on Western Avenue twice a month. We would also display at Ports O' Call Village two to three times a year. It was great to get together with other artists and swap ideas and talk about interests we had in common. My memories of the San Pedro art community inspired me to rejoin this year and I have been loving it and have my work displayed there as shown here along with the wonderful work of other SPAA artists!!

One of my fellow artists and good friends from the '90s, was Rosamunde Griffith. We shared many weekends together at art shows and  I always looked forward to seeing her.

Rosamunde was a spectacular artist and a truly wonderful person. She has since passed away but on rejoining the association I became reacquainted with her son, Robert Smith. He is also a SPAA member and presented me with one of her paintings, pictured above. This is a small sample of the beautiful work Rosamunde painted and nothing could have thrilled me more than to have it to enjoy!

The SPAA has approximately 200 members and many are quite active with the opportunities the Association provides. Not only do the artists display their work in the gallery at three month intervals, they participate in the 1st Thursday Art Walk and various indoor and outdoor shows throughout the year. Gallery artists displaying their work also donate their time to man the gallery and visit with those coming in to view the arts and answer questions. Many a day, visitors can observe artists while they paint and participate in classes provided by various artists.

There are fun activities for the kids too!!

The San Pedro Art Association is a non-profit corporation and provides a forum for networking, information sharing, promotion, access, peer council, professional assistance, art education, opportunities and fun for the artists in the harbor area.

On the second Friday of the month, Fab Friday opens the gallery from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for a night of fun, food, and music and everyone is welcome!
