Cabrillo Beach Bathhouse..the last bathhouse built in Southern California
Cabrillo Beach Bathhouse is the last bathhouse built in Southern California. The Bathhouse sits prominently at the waters edge of Cabrillo Beach
and overlooks the pier and breaker that lead out to
Angel's Gate Lighthouse.
Surrounded by beautiful trees, this historic building and the statue of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, create a wonderful ambiance to the surrounding grounds.
Built in 1932, of Mediterranean-style architecture, in its day, was a favorite of inner city travelers from Los Angeles wanting to spend a day at the beach. Today, it is a fun family vacation spot.
They would travel by streetcar which ran from Los Angeles to San Pedro and on out to
Point Fermin.
This was known as the Red Car Line and a replica of it runs today.
In those days, beach-goers could rent a swimsuit and towel for 10 cents and enjoy a full day at the beach...boy, have times changed!!
Today, beach-goers can still use the facilities to change and shower, and it still provides activities for a family fun vacation.
Once in disrepair and facing ruin, fortunately the Bathhouse has been preserved and restored and is still there for us all to visit and enjoy.
