Pt Fermin Lighthouse is one of the oldest of the West Coast lighthouses
Pt Fermin Lighthouse, one of San Pedro's historical lighthouses, was built of Victorian design in 1874, and is one of the oldest lighthouses in Southern California.
Lighthouse photos such as these transform into beautiful lighthouse paintings. Click here to view one of my paintings of Pt Fermin Lighthouse
They have been a subject I particularly enjoy and have been a niche for many artists.
Around 1960, Pt Fermin Lighthouse was in danger of being demolished by the Coast Guard, but activists were successful in getting it listed in the National Registry of Historic.
It has been restored and though it is no longer used as a lighthouse station, to some it still brings back lighthouse memories of one kind or another.
For me, it was coming here as a teenager and then later bringing my kids to experience the beauty of the park.
It would not have been the same without the lighthouse, to be able to visit and contemplate what it would have been like to live here around the turn of the century.
It sits beautifully within
Pt Fermin Park
overlooking the Pacific Ocean, displays a breathtaking view of some of the most beautiful coastline in California.
Unlike other historical lighthouses, its Victorian design, and positioned where it is in the park, this beauty could easily be mistaken for someones Victorian-style home.
Ironically. it is now residence to the Park Superintendant but tours are still available every Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
