Join me and discover the mystical underwater marine world at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. Recently I took my two grandsons, ages 3 and 5, to enjoy a day there. This marine life aquarium has exhibits that appeal to all ages and some have been introduced especially for the kids. The two they loved the most were the touch tanks and the Exploration building. My grandsons thoroughly enjoyed this outside exhibit, a "touch tank" that holds starfish, sea anemone and other marine life. The term "tank" is a little misleading--it's actually a grotto filled with colorful sea anemones and starfish the kids can touch, with eels and shark in the back that naturally touching would not be a good idea!!
The touch tanks are open for 20 minutes at a time and are supervised by an instructor who tells the kids all about this habitat for marine life and the underwater marine world that exists here. He makes it alot of fun for them with his funny stories and is there to make sure the kids don't touch something that may hurt them.Inside, the kids have just as much fun looking at the numerous natural habitat aquariums that can be found in every room. These hold various species of marine life and have information about each one.
